This makes it more enjoyable for the child to train their weaker eye. Our patches are skin-friendly, available in different sizes, and come in a variety of colors and designs, making it fun for the child to wear an eye patch.
What is an eye patch?
Eye patches are medical aids used under the guidance of an ophthalmologist or orthoptist to cover one eye as part of the treatment for certain eye conditions. They are particularly common in treating amblyopia, also known as lazy eye, where they help strengthen the weaker eye by forcing the brain to use it. Vision training typically concludes once the desired results are achieved, often with a gradual reduction in usage. How to use an eye patch
Important information Eye patches should only be used under the guidance of your ophthalmologist or orthoptist to avoid negatively affecting vision. Follow the schedule provided by your eye care professional for wearing the patch.Applying the eye patch
- Preparation: Ensure the skin around the eye is clean and dry. Avoid applying to wet or oily skin.
- Remove the protective paper: Peel off the protective paper from the back of the eye patch.
- Apply the patch: Close both eyes and relax your face. Place the patch over the eye that doesn’t need training, with the narrow end facing the nose, as shown in the picture. For optimal comfort, the patch should cover the eyebrow.
Removing the eye patch
- Loosen the patch: Gently start to peel the patch from the side closest to the bridge of the nose.
- Remove: Carefully peel along the edge while holding the skin to minimize discomfort.
- Tip: If the patch is too sticky, press it first against your clothes or arm to reduce the adhesive strength, making it easier to remove.
