An eye patch is used by children who wear glasses and can be used in connection with a course of amblyopia vision treatment to correct lazy eye. If your child does NOT wear glasses, then we would like to refer you to our selection of ‘Eye patches with elastic’.
The name of this brand is Kay Fun Patch, developed by an English orthoptist who specializes in vision therapy treatment for children. The eye patches fit all types of glasses. They can be reused and cover both the right and left eye depending on the situation. Furthermore, the eye patches carry the CE-mark, are skin-friendly, and can be hand-washed if they are subsequently air-dried.
We have a large selection of eye patches for children, so there is a wide range of designs to choose from. As a result, there are designs to suit all interests. Finding the perfect design can help to motivate a child to wear the eye patch.
Usage
The eye patch can be used by children to treat sight impairments, such as amblyopia. It is attached to the inside of the glasses. This is beneficial, as the glasses help to keep the eye patch in a good position, and prevent light from penetrating from the sides, due to the tightly fitted design.
The eye patch can be used as an alternative to/in addition to ‘Adhesive eye patches’ if you feel that you may need a break from them for a little while because of skin irritation.
Must only be used after consulting with an orthoptist or an eye doctor.
Shape
The eye patch consists of an oval piece of fabric, which sits on the inside of the lens. It has been designed to accommodate both the lens and the leg of the glasses, so that it covers the entire eye. Placing it on the inside of the glasses ensures a tight fit around the skin, which prevents any light from entering from the side. Blocking out light is one of the most important elements in this form of eye therapy treatment. For this reason, the black layer of fabric on the inside has been tightly woven.
The eye patch has been given a symmetrical shape, which means that it can be used to cover both the right and left eye. Certain eye patches feature a pattern, so when ordering, you must specify whether the eye patch is for the left or right eye.
Instructions
The eye patch is attached to the glasses by passing the leg of the glasses through the two holes and the nose pad through the third hole. If the glasses do not have a nose pad, then elastic is used to fasten the eye patch.
You can find instructions on how to attach the eye patch onto glasses on the page ‘Guide for eye patches’.
Size
See our ’Size guide’ if you are interested in reading more about the shape and size.
Materials
The eye patch is made using a soft, cushioned, and highly breathable choice of fabric. This makes it skin-friendly and comfortable to wear.
The fabric used to make the eye patch is Oeko-Tex® certified, soft, and hypoallergenic. It consists of several layers of breathable fabric on top of each other. The inner black layer is made of 100% cotton, which ensures good comfort against the skin and allows any moisture to either be absorbed or directed away. For these reasons, the eye patch is comfortable and skin-friendly to wear.
There is also the possibility of washing the eye patch using a mild detergent and cool water. Subsequently, the patch must be air dried in order to keep its shape and appearance.
Environment
As the eye patch is washable, it can be reused again and again for several months. Thus, the eye patch can boast of having sustainable qualities.
The fabric is produced, dyed, and cut in the United Kingdom using environmentally friendly methods and colours. This gives it a low CO2 footprint.
The glitter designs are made using polyurethane, which can be recycled.
Safety
The eye patch is safe to use. Nevertheless, we advise that small children wearing an eye patch are supervised.
Additional
This is NOT a toy. If you use the eye patch without consulting an eye doctor first, you may risk negatively impacting sight development. Therefore, it is important that eye patches are only used as a course of treatment if an orthoptist or eye doctor has advised doing so.
The eye patch is approved for use by children of three years old and above.
It is produced in England and carries the CE-mark.
