This eye patch with elastic for children is designed to be used in connection with vision therapy. For example, it can be used when treating a lazy eye (amblyopia). This type is for children, who do NOT wear glasses. If your child wears glasses, then please refer to our selection of eye patches for glasses.
The eye patch is from Kay Fun Patch, which has been developed by an orthoptist who specializes in vision therapy for children. It can be used for both left and right eye, and reused several times. Moreover, the eye patch carries the CE-mark, is safe to use on skin, and can be hand-washed if subsequently air dried.
Usage
The eye patch can be used to treat children who suffer from amblyopia and do not wear glasses.
It is held up to the eye that is to be covered, and the elastic fixture is put around the head. Place the eye patch in front of the eye that requires covering and attach onto the head using the elastic. Make sure the eye patch sits tightly around the eye socket by adjusting the position to ensure that the child cannot peek.
The eye patch can be used as an alternative to adhesive eye patches, or in addition to adhesive eye patches, if the skin needs to take a break every now and again. An eye patch with elastic is NOT the most optimal treatment option for covering an eye when undergoing vision therapy. The reason is that the eye patch runs the risk of being moved from its original position, meaning it doesn’t sit tightly against the skin. Moreover, children can easily move the patch to the side to allow themselves to see. Adhesive eye patches are the best alternative treatment, for children who are not able to cope with wearing an adhesive patch. Then a patch with elastic is a good alternative.
Should only be used after consultation with an orthoptist or an eye doctor.
Shape
The eye patch is designed to include a small interior chamber for the eye/eyelashes in order to ensure appropriate comfort. All eye patches can be used on both the right and left eye.
Size
The eye patches with elastic from Kay Fun Patch are 7 cm x 5.5 cm (width x height). The built-in chamber measures approximately 2 cm from the tip to the eye. The elastic is 35 cm long, but fits all head sizes, since it can extend to more than double its length.
See our ’Size Guide’ where you can find an overview of all types and sizes of eye patches.
Materials
The skin-safe eye patch is made using Oeko-Tex® fabric, which is both certified and hypoallergenic. The fabric consists of several layers. The innermost layer is black and works to block light. This eye patch cannot guarantee that 100% of light will be prevented from penetrating.
The elastic does not contain latex.
The eye patch can be hand-washed using a mild washing detergent and cool water, after which it should be air dried to maintain its shape and appearance.
Environment
The manufacturer of the eye patches believes that the fabric patches are the most sustainable method for covering an eye as a course of treatment for amblyopia. They are made using fabric that can be washed by hand, which means that they can be reused time and time again for many months.
The fabric is manufactured, dyed, and cut in the United Kingdom using environmentally friendly methods and dyes, thus giving them a low CO2 footprint.
The packaging consists of an RPET (recycled-polyethylene-terephthalate) box, which also has a minimal CO2 footprint. It is a recyclable material and can be used to store the eye patch when not in use.
Safety
The eye patch is safe to use. Nevertheless, we advise that children wearing one are supervised.
As is the case with headbands and other elasticated headgear, the eye patch can be pulled down, so it hangs around the neck. This does not pose any immediate danger, as the elastic is very flexible and can be extended to double its length. But technically, the eye patch could constitute a potential choking hazard if it were to get caught on something.
Additional
This is NOT a toy. Only use this eye patch after having consulted an eye doctor or orthoptist first, in order to achieve the necessary correction.
The eye patch is approved for use by children of 3+ years.
Manufactured in England.
